Dynamic Segments

There are two types of segments you can set up in GoodFit: static and dynamic.
When a segment is static, it means that the membership of records within the segment doesn’t change over time unless the segment configuration is manually changed or the segment is manually refreshed.
Any record remains part of the segment even if the data on the record has since changed and it no longer meets the criteria.
It is important to note that the data on the records are still refreshed, it is just the membership that doesn’t change (e.g., if the contact leaves a company, “Is Former Employee?” will be updated to true).
The main use case for static segments is situations where you don’t want records to be either added or removed from the segment unless you manually trigger the refresh. For example, if you run your book building exercise once a quarter you want to keep the segment you’re using for list building static, so your sales team has a consistent list of accounts to work on throughout the quarter.
If you are running a one-off campaign (e.g., targeting some companies with a product launch), there’s no need to have the segment updated either.
Dynamic segments, on the other hand, are automatically refreshed every day. With each refresh, the system checks for two things:
Are there any records that had any changes in their data and now match the segment's criteria? If so, and the record wasn’t previously in the segment, it is automatically added.
Are there any records that are part of the segment that no longer match its criteria; those records are removed from the segment.
You can mark any segment you created as dynamic in the “Edit Segment” screen.
You can identify dynamic segments by a “Dynamic” label next to their name.
Note: When a new company is added to the segment, the contact search for each persona is run automatically — and the company automatically gets enriched with the matching contacts.
Dynamic segments are refreshed daily. If you make any changes to the calculated data points (such as score, tags, or other segments) and the segment you’d like to see refreshed relies on them, you need to refresh it manually if you want the changes to take effect immediately.
Note that you can refresh a static segment manually by clicking the “Refresh segment” option. It will have the same effect as if the segment were dynamic.
If you are interested in reviewing which contacts and/or accounts have been removed from a segment, you can audit the historical members of any segment by clicking “View” and selecting the “Historical” option.
For each record, you can also see the date it was added / removed from the segment, as well as the reason why it was removed.
