# Creating Segments

There are multiple settings in the “Edit Segment” screen to allow you to create a list of the most relevant accounts.

#### Company Filters

You can use any data point available in your GoodFit app to filter the accounts to be included in the segment. This includes calculated fields such as [Score](/goodfit-docs/product/scoring-fields.md), [Tags](/goodfit-docs/product/tags.md), or even other Segments.

<figure><img src="https://lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com/docsz/AD_4nXe9_0lcEjgqPog4T_3RVWYi1nUpzBgJiaofk8NqueT2PNpRb5mDm5VCZ8AiSUQ-NRq5vki8BZDK72EethdpIqwRPcaqE9gI3eg2pU1IsKPtz-ZegsoWTZvqeRmX4ZYJcLqOcRKzKg?key=cMAYDkhyImNYuyOfnNC_GPWg" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Filtering by other segments is especially powerful because it allows you to effectively create sub-segments. In the example below, we're first matching accounts that are considered Tier 1 and then further filtering by location to create a book of business for reps targeting North America.

#### Inclusion & Exclusion rules

You can also build segments using lists from other systems. You can paste in a list of domains to be included (e.g. if you want to create segments for event attendees or retargeting campaigns).

{% hint style="info" %}
Any account matching the domain list will be included regardless of whether it matches the filters or not. It must be present in your GoodFit dataset as well!
{% endhint %}

You can also exclude accounts based on a list of domains. This is useful if you want to make sure that you exclude competitors or existing clients.

<figure><img src="https://lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com/docsz/AD_4nXe3IDQGzhtZ8_G9bKlCREhzewRi2chGKNuef4yfIDYQUaIpzIaC7xOKFH_pZYsrprLC64KMkGUDjm8oENHksYvHx1a2SsBMD_xennPdjxaIlESEr-xc3wT6mSoiFIseFpMoLe754A?key=cMAYDkhyImNYuyOfnNC_GPWg" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can also exclude any account that is already present in other segments using the "Exclude Companies from other segments" feature. This is particularly useful if you’re creating audiences for campaigns and want to make sure that there’s no overlap.<br>

{% hint style="info" %}
Pro Tip: You can create static segments for competitors & clients and reuse them for exclusion across different segments.
{% endhint %}

#### Limits & Sorting

You’re also able to limit the size of the list by taking the top N accounts based on the field you’ve used for list ordering.

There are two main use cases for this setting:

You can create a segment that includes your top-scoring companies.

<figure><img src="https://lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com/docsz/AD_4nXfms13iIR5Llk9FGPadNdJPzRE8mHy3MQ9AJwpjltKWTIfJOrhFiAiRgLeJLAd87rG_0MY9lSl3uYAAl8igMV-qRpF3p9mrJcrOQ5CLdbWwj0wvQH5Y9sguTuFKoi2Fvea6cbzZ?key=cMAYDkhyImNYuyOfnNC_GPWg" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can pick a random subset of accounts, for example, for A/B testing (if you're testing a new campaign / audience and don't want to engage all matching companies).

#### Preview

As you tweak the segment config, the preview of companies will be automatically reloaded. You can use it to review the companies included in the segment, as well as to estimate the size of the segment.

#### Column Selection

Once you’ve saved a segment, you’re also able to select which columns are displayed. By default, only columns used in the segment filters are displayed.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.goodfit.io/goodfit-docs/product/segments/creating-segments.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
